List Of... The Basics For A Stylish Tomato

Recently, I was Flipping through some old magazines and in one a page caught my eye. It was a picture of a closet that held 15 articles of clothing that "every girl should have". While I did agree with about half of their list, I thought it was a bit boring and needed some changes. So I came up with my own list of things that any "fashionable girl" would have in her closet, or needs to have in her closet. Lets call these items, "The Basics". I think, with these 16 pieces you can create many different, stylish, and comfortable outfits.

1) Straight Legged/Skinny Blue Jeans

She Is The Business... Shirley MacLaine

My family and I were spending some time at my grandparent’s house this weekend and there we were, flipping through their dish recordings. It was hour after hour of political shows, Everybody Loves Raymond, and 20/20. We landed on a little Turner Classic Movie called The Apartment. Reluctantly, I sat and watched the 1960 Academy Award winner for best picture and about ten minutes in I was in love. I was in love with Jack Lemmon's sad and lonely struggle to the top, the fast crazy office politics, and the amazing early sixties fashions all the ladies were wearing. So there I was, going along watching the movie, thinking it could never possible get any better, and enter Shirley MacLaine.

She was the cutest and spunkiest elevator girl that ever existed. Not only did I adore her short haircut, but her coats, dresses, and glove made perfect outfits. She played the perfect love stricken lonely girl, and she made you melt with her longing for love.
Here she is in all her cute glory:

Rolling Around Town In...

This past week I have had a bit of a fashion slump. I just was not that inspired, but I think it is getting better. Those amazing girls on wardrobe remix and The Vintage Society Girl's inspiring posts helped me through it.

So while I was in the fashion dumps, I was going crazy with DNA. Yeah that sounds weird but in my science class we were learning about Watson and Crick, ya know those guys who "discovered" DNA. Their whole story is so interesting. My new hero is Rosalind Franklin, I am not going to get into how I think she was totally cheated out of her credit for DNA but she is totally the business. I really wanted to get the book that James Watson wrote called The Double Helix, but the library in my town did not have it, of course. So I got myself some poetry instead, if I find any cool poems I will share them. Ok so this is what I have been wearing:

How to Wear... Jeans

While browsing through wardrobe remix, I have lately been noticing the many girls who are able to pull off jeans while looking totally berries. This is not the easiest thing to do, I know that whenever I through on a pair of jeans I look the farthest from cute that you can get. So I think we should all take note from these stylish tomatoes (20's slag for girl).

She Is The Business... Lilly of the Valley

I really wanted to do my first She Is The Business post on Wednesday, but my internet has been spotty. Gotta love the world wide interweb! So at long last here it is, or here she is, my first She Is The Business is Lilly of the Valley.

I have visited her flicker many time and am enchanted by her brilliant old fashion looks. She has become my latest inspiration.

You can find Lilly of the Valley at these websites: http://www.lilyofthevalley.se/

Rolling Around Town In...

My past week has been filled with attending many play rehearsals and mostly watching good movies.

Photobucket
Just a typical Friday, kinda busy but I did find my way to a band festival so it was good.

Photobucket
I felt a bit like a grandma in this but, then again I usually feel like that.

Photobucket
I love how this dress looks, but I found it a bit uncomfortable.

Oscar Wrap-up

Here as promised, is my full on Oscar post. I was not crazy over the fashions, but there were not terrible.

Red Dresses:
Photobucket
(Helen Mirren and Julie Christie) I think that Helen Mirren looks amazing, but I do not like Julie Christie's dress. I am not sure what is going on with her gloves/sleeves, but I am not feeling.

Photobucket
(Katherine Heigl and Miley Cyrus) All I can say is why was Miley Cyrus there? She makes no contribution to the world of film, or music. Neither of them look to bad but they are not my favorite.

Photobucket
(Anne Hathaway) This is my second favorite red dress on the red carpet. She looks absolutely beautiful.

My Favorite:
Photobucket
(Heidi Klum) I think this dress is totally berries. Heidi Klum is breathtaking. Girl did good.

Ladies In Black:

Photobucket
(Ellen Page) Some people did not like Ellen Page's dress, but I don't have a problem with it. I think she looks fine.

Photobucket
( Hilary Swank) I really do like the bottom of this dress but I am not feeling the overall look.

Photobucket
(Jennifer Garner) I think she looks a little stiff, but I don't hate it.

Girls With One In The Oven:
Photobucket
(Jessica Alba) I love the color, no one else was wearing purple and I love a girl who stands out.

Photobucket
(Cate Blanchett) It is impossible for this girl to look anything less than perfect.

My Favorites:
Photobucket
(Amy Adams) First of all, she is wearing Proenza Schouler. I love the emerald green dress paired with the vintage gold handbag.

Photobucket
(Marion Cotillard) Ok, yes it looks like fish scales, but I think she pulls it off well. Marion looked absolutely berries. I gotta watch her movie this week.

So there you have it, the complete Oscar fashion post.
